Benny Leonard was an American boxing champion active from the 1910s until the early 1930s. He was named the World Lightweight Champion on May 28, 1917 and was able to hold that title for 8 years. He is considered by many boxing historians to be one of the greatest of all time. Leonard originally retired from boxing in 1925 but returned in the early 1930s after suffering significant financial losses in the Great Depression. He ended his career on October 7, 1932 with a final record of 180-21-6. This pocket watch was presented to Benny Leonard in honor of his first retirement. The watch remained in possession of the Leonard family until the death of his wife Jacqueline Stern Leonard. This watch was purchased from the Leonard family estate sale. This Hamilton Wadsworth pocket watch (60g / 2.10oz) is 14kt gold filled and measures approximately 2”x2”. The serial number 0410113 dates the watch to 1928. Excellent condition overall with minor wear to the rear panel and face of the watch. Accompanied by a Craig Hamilton / JO Sports Inc. LOA.
