Dr. Samuel McCrea Cavert was a prominent religious figure who often communicated with politicians and political figures. Cavert was one of the country's foremost ecumenical leaders and a chief architect of the National Council of Churches and the World Council of Churches. Documents addressed to him can be found in various archives such as those of Franklin D. Roosevelt and Martin Luther King Jr. This letter addressed to Cavert is signed by president Franklin D. Roosevelt and is dated 12/13/1941 just 6 days after the attack on Pearl Harbor. Roosevelt discusses that he is delighted to hear of McCrea’s trip to the World Council of Churches and encourages him to write back after his meetings. Roosevelt’s signature appears at the bottom of the letter in black ink and in our opinion rates a 9. Accompanied by an LOA from JSA.
