Charles Walter Dressen was a third baseman, manager and coach in professional baseball during a career lasting almost fifty years. As a manager, Chuck Dressen compiled a 1,008-973 record with the Cincinnati Reds, Brooklyn Dodgers, Washington Senators, Milwaukee Braves and Detroit Tigers from 1934-1966. Inside the back of the neck of this pinstripe flannel, is the Spalding label. The Reds felt wishbone logo crest is on the left breast. There remains a fragment of what appears to have been team tagging on the right rear tail, near the side seam. The numbers 3 28 are clear, as are the middle letters ‘ES’ as well as fragments of what could have been a first letter D and an S or an N. A study of the Reds roster in 1928, shows that the only player who had an ‘es’ adjoining in his last name was infielder Chuck Dressen, whose name begins with a ‘D’ and has those other letters in it as well. Notably, one other player was on the team with an adjoining ‘ES’ in his surname 1924-1927, Rube Bressler, but Dressen was not in the 1928 roster. The ‘28’ on the tail refers to the year. There is a 6” long repaired fabric tear starting under the right armhole and continuing across the chest. The rip has been crudely stitched closed with a piece of backing fabric and parallel rows of straight machine stitching. Some of the piping is loose. This jersey is properly tagged, presented to us as game-used and in our opinion shows outstanding wear. Accompanied by a letter from Sports Investors Authentication.
