The first medal is made of silver, measures 2-3/4” x 1-1/2”, weighs 24 grams and was presented to long distance swimmer Walter Pomeroy. The top portion of the medal features two banners, the top banner reads “PACIFIC COAST SWIMMING CHAMPIONSHIP” in relief and the lower banner is hand-engraved “2ND PLACE 880 YD. DASH”. The lower portion of the medal features a casted image of a goddess with a 1911 shield giving a laurel to two swimmers. There is a small script “P” casted on the left edge of the medal. The second medal is made of bronze, measures 2-3/4” x 1-1/2”, weighs 24 grams and was presented to long distance swimmer Walter Pomeroy. The top portion of the medal features two banners, the top banner reads “PACIFIC COAST SWIMMING CHAMPIONSHIP” in relief and the lower banner is hand-engraved “3RD PLACE 440 YD. DASH”. The lower portion of the medal features a casted image of a goddess with a 1911 shield giving a laurel to two swimmers. There is a small script “P” casted on the left edge of the medal. The third medal measures 2” x 1-9/16” and weighs 16 grams. The top portion is hand-engraved “3RD” and reads “PRIZE SO. CAL. CHAMPIONSHIP” in relief. The reverse side houses the pin used to wear the medal. The lower portion features the “SCSA” logo, a casted image of a life preserver hand-engraved with “440 YARD DASH”. It reads “SO.CAL SWIMMING ASSN. NAPLES, CAL. AUG. 16 ‘08.” The reverse side is stamped with “CENTENMANN JEWELRY CO. - L.A. CAL.” and “E” inside the image of a bird with “STERLING”. The fourth medal measures 1” x 2” and weighs 19 grams. It features a casted image of a laurelled bird, decorative leaves and a dancing woman. It reads “OCT. 25TH, 1913” and “PORTOLA SWIMMING CHAMPIONSHIPS” in relief. The reverse side is hand-engraved “880 YD. DASH WON BY” and is stamped “STERLING HAMMERSMITH”. The fifth medal 1-1/2” x 1-3/8” and weighs 17 grams. It features a casted image of a swimmer readying a dive. It reads “PACIFIC COAST SWIMMING CHAMPIONSHIP - SUTRO BATHS JULY 4, 1913” enameled in purple. The reverse side is hand-engraved 880 YARD SWIM WON BY” and is stamped “LARSONECS S.D. STERLING”. The sixth medal measures 1-3/4” x 1-1/4” and weighs 6 grams. The top portion features a banner hand-engraved “440 YARDS”. The reverse side is stamped “A.S. SAMUELS 10K” and houses the pin used to wear the medal. The lower portion is hand-engraved “ANNUAL SWIMMING CHAMPIONSHIP P.A.A. OF A.A.U.” along with the image of a swimmer. The reverse side is hand-engraved “1ST PRIZE WON BY W. POMEROY - 6-5-’08”. All four medals were presented to long distance swimmer Walter Pomeroy. The medals are in NRMT condition and display beautifully.
