HOFer, “The Captain”, Mark Messier.Considered to be one of the greatest team leaders in the history of professional sports, Mark Messier was simply that. He made good players great and great players supreme. Over the course of his more than two decades on the ice, Messier won six Stanley Cups, five of them with the Edmonton Oilers (including this season) while scoring 1,887 points in 1,756 games. He won two Hart trophy's, and one Conn Smythe. Inside the back of the neck of this white, blue, and orange mesh jersey, is the Nike size L/G label. OILERS logo crest on the chest. Alternate Captain’s “A” on the left breast. Player number (11) is done on the sleeves and on the back, in blue on orange tackle twill, with white embroidery, showing nice wear and puckering. Player name (MESSIER) is done in blue tackle twill on a white nameplate across the back. The year “87/88” is handwritten inside the neck with blue marker. Fightstrap intact with salting present and the year “1987-88” again handwritten, in black marker on its base. The sleeves have been custom shortened. This jersey is properly tagged, presented to us as game-used and in our opinion shows appropriate wear, with multiple stick marks present. This jersey was originaly purchased from Rich Ellis - Spirit Of The Game were he stated "In researching for a photo match I have seen photos, especially from the Oilers heritage website, that have him wearing the "A" lower on the chest than this jersey and most if not all those shots are from the second half of the season if not end of the season and playoffs. So I am leaning towards this was worn in the 1st part of the 87-88 season.".
