There is only so much you can say in words about HOFer, “Mr. Cub” Ernie Banks. Banks made his debut with the Cubs on September 17, 1953, as their first black player. During that game, he received a visit from Jackie Robinson that influenced his quiet presence in baseball. Robinson told Banks, “Ernie I’m glad to see you’re up here so now just listen and learn..For years, I didn’t talk and learned a lot about people”. Banks finished the rookie campaign with 19 dingers and finished second to Wally Moon in ROY voting. His pro accolades include: 2x NL MVP, 14x All-Star, 1960 Gold Glove 2x NL HR leader, a member of the MLB All-Century team and his No. 14 retired by the Cubs. This jacket was ordered by the team and first issued to Paul Schramka, who only played two games, after which it was assigned to #14 Ernie Banks and the rest was history. Inside the back of the neck is the Wilson label with a size (46) tag attached. Inside the front zipper tail, is a player attribution number (14) label sewn in and below is a red felt year (1953) label stitched in blue with a strikethrough (possible to reinforce). The manufacturer tag shows good wear. Red white and blue Cubs patch on the left breast. This jacket is properly tagged, presented to us as player-worn and in our opinion shows appropriate wear.
