Bill White played for St. Louis Cardinals from 1959-65. He was an eight-time All-Star and seven-time Gold Glove winner who earned a championship as a top contributor in the 1964 World Series, with the Cardinals. White became a full-time sportscaster after his playing career ended in 1969 and was the play-by-play man and color analyst for New York Yankees television and radio broadcasts for 18 years. In 1989, White was elected President of the National League to replace Bart Giamatti, who succeeded Peter Ueberroth as Commissioner. He was the first African-American to occupy the position. White served as NL president until he retired in 1994. This is White's third of seven consecutive Gold Gloves. Beautiful, early Gold Glove Award is comprised of a golden Rawlings glove stamped "National League All-Star Fielding Team" and a gold-colored baseball engraved with the year "1962." Both are backed by a vertical standing wooden diamond reading,"Rawlings Gold Glove Award" on a gold-colored metal plate. All of this sits on a wooden base with gold-colored plate engraved with "1962, 1B--Bill White, The Sporting News National League All-Star Fielding Team." Measures 16x6.5x15". Light handling and storage wear. The backboard of the base has been repaired, not affecting the display-ability of the front. This item will require additional shipping charges due to size, weight and fragility.
