Only the good die young. Thurman Munson’s No. 15 was retired by George Steinbrenner immediately upon his death and subsequently erected a plaque in monument park for him. The plaque reads ‘Our captain and leader has not left us, today, tomorrow, this year, next…Our endeavors will reflect our love and admiration for him.’ Munson played 11 seasons in the Bronx and led the Yankees to three consecutive World Series from 1976-78. In the 1976 WS, Munson hit .529 and set a WS record with six straight hits. Yankees interlocking NY on the front. Inside the back of the sweatband is the New Era Pro Model label. There are some threads remaining of where adjacent size tag was. Number (15) is handwritten in black marker under the brim, for player attribution. The brim has a slight crack down the middle only visible from the underside. The top of the brim shows frayed threads, likely due to constant rubbing from a catcher’s mask. This hat is properly marked, presented to us as game-used and in our opinion shows light wear.
