Tony Gwynn was an eight-time National League batting champion, which is tied for the most in NL history and was inducted into the National Baseball Hall of Fame in 2007 on the first ballot. Gwynn batted .300 or higher in every season except his rookie year, giving him a record 19 straight seasons above .300. Gwynn recorded career hits 2,958 and 2,959 on April 28th, 1999 against the New York Mets. On the front left tail is the Russell Athletic manufacturer’s tag size “50” with washing instructions and an attached flag tag reading “100% POLYESTER”. Handwritten on this tag in blue marker is “4/28/98 vs NY METS 2958 2959” which is misdated by a year. Across the front reads “SAN DIEGO” and on the back is the player number “19” in navy blue on white on orange tackle twill. Across the back is the player name “GWYNN” in navy blue tackle twill. On the left sleeve is the “1969 Padres NATIONAL LEAGUE 1999” patch. Gwynn signed the back of the jersey in silver marker and in our opinion rates a near 9. Embroidered on the back below the player number is “#2958 #2959 4-28-99 VS. NYM” in navy blue. This jersey is properly tagged, was presented to us as game-used and in our opinion shows appropriate use. Accompanied by a Gwynn LOA, a PM&G LOA grading the jersey a 10 and an ALOA from JSA.
