Casey Stengel was hired to be a salesman as well as manager in 1962 when the expansion New York Mets began from scratch and pretty much stayed there. The Old Perfessor stamped his personality all over his team of lovable losers, nicknaming them the "Amazin's" and doing overtime duty pitching them to the public, such as in this time-capsule-worthy advertising piece put out by the Mets sponsor, Rheingold Beer, in which Casey assumes a bunt position with Miss Rheingold, Kathy Kirsch. For longtime Met fans, the bunt is a home run, as Casey signed the barrel of the bat in blue pen, with the signature rating an 8. The full-color, 13-1/2" x 19" advertisement reads, "Kathy and Casey at the bat!" and has the Rheingold logo in the upper right corner. It is mounted under glass in a handsome brown frame.
