During his career with the Kentucky Colonels before the NBA/ABA merger, Artis Gilmore was named an All-Star each year. These two plaques were given to Gilmore in honor of his participation in the 1972 and the 1975 ABA All-Star games. The 1972 plaque features Knights helmet above an emblem with the text “5th Annual All-Star Game” followed by the Kentucky Colonels Logo. Artis Gilmore’s name is engraved at the bottom. Due to age the glue holding the metal portion of the plaque has come loose from the wood. The 1975 All-Star game award features a portrait of Artis printed onto a metal sheet. Below the image is a metal plate reading “Artis Gilmore - Kentucky Colonels - ABA All Star Game - San Antonio, Texas - Jan. 28, 1975”. Both awards have manufacturers tagging on the rear side. The 1972 award measures approximately 9.2.5”x7.25” and the 1975 award measures approximately 9”x6”. This lot comes directly from Artis Gilmore and is accompanied by his LOA.
