This jersey is as important as any early Eagles jersey. HOFer, Chuck Bednarik was selected as the first overall by the Eagles, in the 1949 NFL draft. Early on, he played both ways - offensive Center and Defensive Linebacker (one of the last players to be named to the NFL’s “Sixty-Minute-Men”. He went on to play his entire 14 year NFL career with Philadelphia. His NFL accolades include: 2x NFL Champ (1949 / 1960), 8x Pro Bowler, 1950s All-Decade Team and a member of the NFL’s 50th, 75th and 100th Anniversary All-Time Teams. On november 20th, 1960, in a game between the Eagles and the NY Giants at the original Yankee Stadium, Bednarik knocked Giants Running Back Frank Gifford out of football for over 18 months in one of the most famed tackles in NFL history - often regarded to simply as “The Hit”. This play was a very significant play, as it was highly scrutinized but also helped the Eagles towards the 1960 NFL Championship game. Years later, Gifford called the hit “a clean shot, Chuck hit me exactly the way I would have hit him”. As an aside, Bednarik flew on 30 combat missions over Nazi German during WWII, earning him multiple medals. On the front left tail of this green durene, is the Sand Knit label, with a size (48) tag attached. Player number (60) is done in white tackle twill on the front/back and both sleeves. It is properly tagged, presented to us as game-used and in our opinion shows outstanding wear with repairs throughout.
