??In the strike shortened season of 1981, Pete Rose led the league with 140 hits and hit .325. Rose became the National League's all-time hit leader with hit number 3,631. Used by Rose during that historic campaign, this red helmet displays "14" on the outer brim, "P" on the front, and "ABC" on the back, all in white decals. Meanwhile, the inner brim is stamped "American Baseball Cap. The inner crown displays an ABC decal denoting a size of "7 1/8," and the leather headband and crown cushion are completely intact. The helmet shows a season's worth of wear with scuffs and sweat marks. Rose signed and dated "Pete Rose 8-10-81" (the day he passed Stan Musial as the National League's all-time hit leader) in vintage black marker and in our opinion rates a 7. Game-used batting helmets worn by top tier players during historic seasons which are completely intact and exhibit this degree of wear are extremely rare. This is undoubtedly one of the best Pete Rose helmets. Accompanied by a Resolution PhotoMatching LOA and a PSA/DNA LOA.
