The 1931 Philadelphia Athletics season involved the A's finishing first in the American League with a record of 107-45. It was the team's third consecutive pennant-winning season and its third consecutive season with over 100 wins. 1931 was also the A's final World Series appearance in Philadelphia. Their next AL pennant would be in 1972, after they had moved to Oakland. This vintage 5” x 4” autograph book is signed on the first three pages by 23 members of the 1931 Athletics including Hall of Famers Jimmie Foxx rating a 9, Mickey Cochrane rating an 8-9, Lefty Grove rating a strong 9, Connie Mack (manager) rating a near perfect 10, Waite Hoyt rating an 8 and Eddie Collins rating an 8-9. Other signatures include Dykes, Earnshaw, Bing Miller, Mahaffey, McNair, Walberg, Rommel, Bishop, Haas, McDonald, Earle Mack (coach), Peterson, Cramer, Krausse, Moore, Finney and Ira Thomas. On a separate page is Pinky Higgins. All signatures are done in period black ink and rate an overall 8-9 unless otherwise noted. Also included is a page dated “11-17-32” that has “Roses are red grass is green my face is funny but yours is a scream. (signed) Peggy Byrne” in black period ink rating a 9. The book is in EX+ overall condition with the signed pages themselves better. This magnificent book is accompanied by a LOA from JSA.
