Sparky Lyle was the first AL reliever to win Cy Young and considered to be one of the greatest relievers in history. He was a 3x All-Star, 2x World Series Champ, 1977 AL Cy Young and 2x AL saves leader. It was during his time at Pittsfield that he picked up the slider, a pitch that was introduced to him by Ted Williams at spring training prior to that season. Lyle recalled, "He told me it was the best pitch in baseball because it was the only pitch he couldn't hit even when he knew it was coming." The slider became the most successful pitch in his repertoire. On the front left tail of this home flannel, is the McAULIFFE label, with two tags below: ‘68 / 44. Team name (RED SOX) is arched across the chest and player number (28) on the back - both done in red on navy blue felt. Lyle has boldly signed the left tail in black marker, in our opinion rating a 9. This jersey is properly tagged, presented to us as game-used, and in our opinion shows appropriate wear. Accompanied by a letter from Photo-Match.com, confirming the match to an undated image. Accompanied by a full PSA LOA. Accompanied by a letter from MEARS grading A10.
