In his final season in 1974, at age 40, Jurgensen led the NFC in passer rating at 94.5. In 1969, Vince Lombardi took over as the Redskins’ head coach. Many wondered if Lombardi and Jurgensen could work together. Noted for his taskmaster approach to coaching, Lombardi quickly developed a strong admiration for the fun-loving quarterback. "Jurgensen is a great quarterback," the coach said without hesitation. "He hangs in there under adverse conditions. He may be the best the league has ever seen. He is the best I have seen." On the front left tail of this heavy white ¾ knit, is the Wilson size 44 label (slightly coming undone in the corner). Player number (9) appears on the front/back and both sleeves. Player name (JURGENSEN) on a white nameplate across the back. All done in maroon tackle twill. Jurgensen has signed and inscribed the back right shoulder, in black marker “Game Jersey Sonny Jergensen HOF 83”, in our opinion rating a an 8. This jersey is properly tagged, presented to us as game-used and in our opinion shows appropriate wear.
