Roberto Clemente was a 2-time World Series Champion, 13-time All-Star and was the recipient of 12 consecutive Gold Glove Awards. He is considered by many to be one of the most influential baseball players of all time due to his work on and off the field. Clemente regularly made visits to Latin American and Caribbean countries for charity work. He was tragically killed in a plane crash while enroute to help victims of the 1972 Nicaragua earthquake. After his passing the the National Baseball Hall of Fame changed its rules to allow for a player who had been dead for at least six months would be eligible for entry. Shortly after his passing the prestigious Commissioner’s Award was renamed to the Roberto Clemente Award in his honor. This career achievements ring was put out as a limited edition piece by Balfour in the 2000s. The face of the ring displays "21" in gold and synthetic diamonds atop a black stone, surrounded by "Roberto Clemente, 1955-72". The left side reads "3,000 Hits," "1961, 1964, 1965, 1967 Batting Titles," ".317 B.A." and depicts a bat. The right side features "Roberto Clemente," "1966 MVP," "12 Gold Gloves" and depicts a glove. The interior band is stamped "LGB 10K" and "26/200.” This size 10 (36g / 1.25oz) ring is in near mint condition. Accompanied by the original Balfour box.
