Before a tragic 1972 plane crash ended his life, Roberto Clemente amassed four batting titles and exactly 3000 hits while earning acclaim for his powerful arm in right field. The all-around superstar won the 1966 National League MVP award and was awarded an astounding 12 Gold Gloves. For his incredible play as well as his dedicated humanitarianism, Clemente was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame following a special election in 1973. This is a Rawlings professional model TGP glove. Conventional back with a ‘Snugger Adjustment’ wrist strap, an ‘Ed-U-Cated’ heel, a pro-style ‘Trap-Eze’ web, a ‘Deep Well Pocket’ and a ‘Dual Step-Down Palm’. Manufacturer’s labeling features a silk Rawlings wrist label and a lightly branded ‘Rawlings’ on the heel. This glove is properly marked, presented to us as game-used and our opinion shows outstanding wear, with substantial wear in the pocket, face of the web and throughout the body. Oral history of the glove has it being gifted to former Pirate teammate, Matty Alou, by Clemente. The Glove was later acquired from Alou by former Pirates pitcher, Doc Ellis, and then sold by Ellis to raise funds to take care of personal expenses. Accompanied by a letter from PSA/DNA.
