Earl Lloyd became the first African-American to play in an NBA game on October 31st, 1950 as a member of the Washington Capitols. Lloyd would forever change the future of the league and how African-Americans would integrate into professional basketball. Lloyd won an NBA Championship, later became the first African-American bench coach and was inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame in 2003. Presented is Lloyd’s Hall of Fame enshrinement award with direct family provenance. The award stands approximately 20” tall with an approximate 7” base and weighs 9 lbs. Engraved on two plates towards the bottom are “EARL LLOYD” and “CLASS OF 2003”. Above reads “NAISMITH MEMORIAL BASKETBALL HALL OF FAME ENSHRINEE”. The award has been professionally repaired and displays beautifully. A historically significant piece, this award is accompanied by a Lloyd family LOA.
