The New York Islanders selected Potvin with the 1st overall pick in the 1973 NHL Amateur Draft. He began his Hall of Fame career on Long Island in 1973-74 and won the Calder Trophy as the NHL’s Rookie of the Year in the spring of 1974. During that time he played in 1060 games and scored 310 goals and 1052 points. His playoff totals consist of 164 points in 185 games played. Potvin is considered one of the NHL’s all-time great defenseman and won 3 Norris Trophies. Denis became the Captain of the Islanders in 1979-80 and immediately led the team to 5 consecutive Stanley Cup Finals, hoisting the Cup 4 straight times from 1980-83 and earning dynasty status in the process. Attached inside the neck is the Pederson’s manufacturer’s tag. Multiple team repairs are present throughout including two large ones on the front body as well as marks, board burns and pilling. Across the chest is the Islanders team logo crest. The Captain’s “C” logo is on the upper left chest and the player number “5” is on both sleeves and the back. These are done in white on orange tackle twill. Across the back is the player name “POTVIN” in white tackle twill. The fight strap is intact and on the back right tail is a Pederson’s logo. This jersey is properly tagged, was presented to us as game-used and in our opinion shows outstanding use. Accompanied by a Photo-Match.com LOA.
