This compelling and unique Chicago White Sox artifact comes from 1919, the year of the “Black Sox” scandal that rocked the baseball world to its core. One of the best pitchers in baseball, Eddie Cicotte agreed to participate in the World Series “fix”. Presented is Cicotte’s 1919 players contract consigned by the family. The official American League player’s contract reads “Chicago Club” with “Ed Cicotte” and the date stamped “MAY 2 - 1919” on the front with the signature of American League president Ban Johnson on the appropriate line. The contract states that Cicotte will make $750.00 per month and an additional sum of $202.50 per month making the total compensation to the player at the rate of $952.50 per month. The contract is stamped with the date “29” of “Jan. 1919” and signed by Cicotte and Hall of Fame owner Charles Comiskey with a stamp reading “American League Baseball Club Of Chicago” and in our opinion rate a combined 9.
