The cane of President Rutherford Hayes once said “he serves his party best who serves his country best”. This cane features a 3 1/2 inch tall bust of Hayes on top of a 32-inch black painted wooden cane. The second cane measures 34 1/2" tall. This light green wooden cane with dark snowflakes throughout establishes an usual appearance. James A. Garfield's portrait is along the top portion. His image is a bit marred as it is part of the handle which would explain its use. This is the only known Garfield cane we have seen. Some paint loss is visible on the very top and a few scuffs are seen throughout, however the cane displays beautifully. The third cane measures 35" tall featuring a black painted shaft and topped by a barrel ornamented top with printed signatures. There is an unexplained hole that is located a few inches below the barrel. It appears to be manufactured this way and may have included an attached mounting for a flag but that is not included.
