1939 was the year that Babe Ruth left baseball for good, having given up his job as a Brooklyn Dodger coach after the previous season, but the Bambino was still the game's prime good will ambassador at various locales. That summer, Babe was the main attraction at the dedication of the Hall of Fame museum, where he received the plaque upon his induction to the Hall in 1938 He also made the rounds at the New York World's Fair, mingling with legions of fans, one of whom was lucky enough to get the Babe's signature on this orange and black souvenir captain's hat with "New York World's Fair, 1939" on the front. Ruth wrote on the bill, "Best wishes to Albert Stalingsberg from Babe Ruth," in black fountain pen, with the signature rating an 8. There is also a handwritten notation on the inside band that reads, "From Aunt Katherine." The cloth hat is in excellent condition and comes with a PSA DNA certificate of authenticity.
