The 1979 World Series featured the Pittsburgh Pirates against the Baltimore Orioles. After 7 games the Pirates were able to pull off a victory recovering from their 3-1 deficit. This World Series title resulted in Willie Stargell being named the oldest MVP at age 39 beating the record set by the late Roberto Clemente. Since this game the Pirates have not returned to a World Series championship. These cufflinks were presented to the team accountant and were manufactured by Balfour. One cufflink has the Pirates mascot logo at center with "1979 World Champions Pittsburgh Pirates" lettered around the mascot. The other cufflink depicts the World Series trophy with "World Champions" at the top and 1909 through 1979 winning years below. The manufacturer's mark appears on the rear side reading “LGB 1/10 10k”. The pair of cufflinks weighs approximately 16g / 0.55 oz and is in excellent condition.
