Glenn Burke is known as being the first gay player in MLB history, as well as inventing the ‘high five’ alone with Dusty Baker in 1977 after Baker hit his 30th home run of the season. In August 2013, Burke was among the first class of inductees into the National Gay and Lesbian Sports Hall of Fame. This lot contains three jerseys, a pair of grey flannel pants and a Glenn Burke pro model bat. Jerseys: yellow knit 1979 A’s (restored), late 70’s home and road knit Dodgers. The jerseys are properly tagged, presented to us as game-used and in our opinion show appropriate wear. They pants are grey flannel pants. Inside the back of the waistband is the Goodman & Sons label, with a grey strip tag: 34 / 24. ‘Burke’ is handwritten in black marker, for player attribution. We are unsure of team / year. The bat is properly marked, presented to us as game-used and in our opinion shows appropriate wear. Accompanied by a newspaper story on Burke.
