"Fiddler on the Roof" is one of the longest-running and most-honored Broadway shows of all time. The bittersweet musical about proud Jewish peasants cherishing family tradition while under the oppressive thumb of Czarist Russia was a personal tour de force for actor Zero Mostel and won 10 Tony Awards in 1965 during its original run, including Best Musical, Best Actor, and Best Actress, and 26 years later won this Tony for Best Revival. The prestigious Tony (named for Antoinette Perry, the late board chairwoman of the American Theater Wing) is an 8" statuette featuring an engraved 3" diameter gold medallion with the famous happy and sad masks on one side and the names of the show's producers, Barry and Fran Weissler on the other. The medallion is mounted to a curved armature attached to a 2" x 2-1/2" black marble tower and a 4" x 4" black marble pedestal. On the pedestal is a silver plaque that reads "American Theater Wing, Tony Award." The Tony is in near mint condition.
