Hall of Famer Carl Yastrzemski is an 18-time All-Star, the possessor of seven Gold Gloves and a member of the 3000 hit club. He is the Red Sox' all-time leader in career RBIs, runs, hits, singles, doubles, total bases and games played. Presented is one of the jerseys Yastrzemski wore during the final game of his career on October 2nd, 1983 in a 3-1 victory over the Cleveland Indians. Yastrzemski wore multiple jerseys during the game and donated them to the Jimmy Fund of the Dana-Farber Cancer institute. The jersey comes with a LOA from the Executive Director of the Jimmy Fund and former teammate of Yastrzemski Mike Andrews. On the front left tail is the Wilson manufacturer’s tag size “42” with washing instructions and a box tag below reading the year “83”. Across the chest reads “RED SOX” and on the back is the player number “8” both in red on navy blue tackle twill. Yastrzemski signed the front of the jersey in blue marker with the added inscription “1983” and in our opinion rates a 7 with some smudging. The letter “Y” is written in marker inside the tail possibly noting multiple jerseys from his final game and minor water staining is present. This jersey is properly tagged, was presented to us as game-used and in our opinion shows light use. Accompanied by a Mike Andrews LOA and an ALOA from JSA.
