Nolan Ryan laughed at the calendar and kept big league hitters overmatched for 27 seasons until his mid-40s. On June 11, 1990, Ryan, pitching for the Texas Rangers, authored the sixth of his record seven career no-hitters. At the age of 43 years, 4 months and 12 days, he whitewashed the Oakland A's 5-0 in Oakland, becoming the oldest pitcher in history to throw a no-hitter and the first to fire one with three different teams and in three different decades, striking out 14 while walking just two. Ryan marked the historic occasion by signing this OAL Brown ball used in the game on the sweet spot in black pen, with the signature rating an 8. The signature sits between the hand-written notations "6-11-1990" and "#6." Ryan personally autographed the ball for AL umpire John Shulock, who also signed it under a hand-written inscription that reads, "Ball used by Nolan Ryan in 6th no hitter, 6-11-90." His signature rates a 7. The scuffed and stained condition of the ball gives an idea of what hitters could expect to see when Ryan let loose - that is, if they could see it all. The ball comes with a letter of authenticity from Shulock.
