The "modern" era of the Chicago Cubs was born in 1921 when the team was purchased by chewing gum mogul William Wrigley Jr. and moved into newly built, Wrigley Field. Here in 1929 with future Hall of Famers like manager Joe McCarthy and Rogers Hornsby, Hack Wilson and Kiki Cuyler (who between them had 93 homers and 410 RBIs), the Cubs won the NL flag before losing a five-game World Series to the Philadelphia A's. This framed panoramic vista of Wrigley from centerfield, featuring a big white-shirted crowd and some fans even sitting on the grass in right field, is striking in how unchanged Wrigley is today. An array of head shots around the photo include the aforementioned figures as well as captain Charlie Grimm and pitcher Charlie Root. The 9" x 35-1/2" print is in very good condition with several fold marks and has an antique-looking black frame.
