In 1908, Wrigley Field had not yet been built and the Chicago Cubs were world champions, a statistic that Cub fans have been waiting to duplicate ever since. The magnificent panoramic photo is part of a 13' x 42' poster issued to honor the Cubs' second straight title and third straight pennant under brilliant manager Frank Chance. The perspective of this photo offers a stunning view from behind the centerfield fence at 16,000-seat West Side Grounds over the bowler hat-topped heads of fans standing on their makeshift seats. Under the photo it reads "A Yard of the National Game, Home of the Record-Breaking Cubs, Thrice Champions of the National League." Arrayed across the top are head shots of Cub stars including Joe Tinker, Mordecai Brown and Orval Overall, on the left, team president Charles Murphy, and on the right Frank Chance. On either side is a ferocious looking bear. The photo is in near mint condition, preserved under glass in an impressive vintage brown wood frame.
