After the Yankees took all three games from the Braves in Atlanta during the 1996 World Series, they returned home to Yankee Stadium poised to clinch their 23rd Championship Crown in team history. As the ball was popped up foul behind third base, Charlie Hayes stood waiting... the raucous crowd anticipating the catch. The Yankees had won their first World Series since 1978 and the celebration had just begun. This was THE shirt worn by Yankees post season hero Jim Leyritz during the Game 6 post-game locker room celebration at Yankee Stadium. It was the official "Starter" Championship shirt for 1996, size "XL." If this shirt could talk, imagine the stories! It is completely saturated with victorious champagne stains. Jim Leyritz has autographed the shirt in blue marker adding the inscription "#13 96 W.S. CHAMPS" which rates a 7-8. The signature seems to have been traced over by Jim after he began due trying to sign on such a problematic surface. This incredible piece of NY Yankees history comes with pristine provenance, a hand-signed LOA from Leyritz himself, as well as a LOA from JSA.
